Liturgical Season of Lent
From the Diocese of Ottawa: In the Catholic faith, God often uses how humans perceive the physical world to impart something spiritual. He uses the seasons of the year to ingrain divine lessons. One such season is Lent. The liturgical cycle invites you not to just read the Scriptures, but to live them. You can experience biblical history and Jesus’ earthly life through the sacraments, sacramentals, celebrations, and times of fasting.

Lenten Penance Services & Confession Times in Parishes

All Saints Dominican Experience
In 2013, All Saints commenced supporting a one room early education center named Todo Los Santos on the Batey Margarita outside of Consuelo in the Dominican Republic. Our annual excursion to this community allows us to sponsor 30 children aged 2-5 who otherwise would not receive an education. Our students and staff arrived in the Dominican this past Saturday and will enjoy an immersion in this culture as they help support the community.



Classroom Visits - Information Sharing
At the end of January and into February, our All Saints administration visited every grade 7-12 classroom to share some common expectations, discuss the support available through our student services department, and take the time to answer student questions. Our grade 7&8 visits focused on encouraging the students around three particular areas:

• Being respectful - of your peers, your teachers and the school environment
• Being prepared - arriving to class on-time with all the necessary resources
• Being focused - using technology at the appropriate times (when directed by the classroom teacher) and having personal devices off and away when not required for class activities.

Our high school discussions focused on important timelines for students (course selection, community services hours, etc.), support for mental health through our Student Services department and additional expectations including dress code. We encouraged students to share updates with parents around pick up and drop off locations before and after school. If students or parents have any additional questions regarding school expectations, we would encourage you to contact an administrator.

Girls’ Hockey - Championship Game
Many of our All Saints teams and clubs are experiencing much success in community competition. Our girls’ hockey team will play in the City Finals at 1:00pm on Feb 27. Any spectators arriving to watch the game (after school!) at Merivale Arena should be aware that there is a $3 door charge levied by the Capital Athletic Association.

Student Fundraiser
A group of our All Saints Grade 12 students has organized a fundraiser selling locally grown Haitian coffee from Singing Rooster: a social non-profit enterprise which helps alleviate poverty in Haiti through fair trade. All proceeds from the selling of coffee will go directly to Kids Connection Haiti. This charity helps Haitian orphans transition from institutions to independent lives. All sales will take place through school cash online. Ground and Whole bean varieties are available in medium, dark and decaf. As a huge incentive, for every bag of coffee a student sells, he/she will have his or her name placed into a draw for 2 Air Canada Tickets to anywhere in North America. Students are encouraged to purchase coffee for parents, family and friends. All coffee will be delivered to students in their homeroom classroom later in March.
